Which front-load dumpster size does your business need?
Most small offices and boutiques fit a 2-yard front-load dumpster, which holds about 24 trash bags. Convenience stores and mid-size restaurants usually need a 4-yard, hotels and large offices a 6-yard, and grocery stores or campuses an 8-yard holding about 96 bags between pickups.
| Size | L × W × H | Holds about | Weight | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2-yard | 6 × 3 × 3 ft | 24 trash bags | About 400 lb | Small offices, boutiques |
| 4-yard | 6 × 3 × 4 ft | 48 trash bags | About 800 lb | Convenience stores, mid-size restaurants |
| 6-yard | 6 × 5 × 6 ft | 72 trash bags | About 1,200 lb | Hotels, large offices |
| 8-yard | 6 × 6 × 7 ft | 96 trash bags | About 1,600 lb | Grocery stores, universities |
Bag counts assume standard kitchen-size trash bags. Pickup frequency, price and term are set on your service quote.
How do you size a commercial dumpster by bags per day?
Count the trash bags your business fills in a day, multiply by the days between pickups, and choose the front-load size that holds at least that many bags. A shop filling 8 bags a day with pickup every 3 days needs room for 24 bags, which is a 2-yard dumpster.
| Business | Bags a day | Days between pickups | Bags to hold | Size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boutique | 4 | 6 | 24 | 2-yard |
| Restaurant | 12 | 4 | 48 | 4-yard |
| Hotel | 24 | 3 | 72 | 6-yard |
| Grocery store | 32 | 3 | 96 | 8-yard |
These are examples, not schedules. Flattened cardboard takes far less room than loose boxes, so breaking boxes down can let you stay a size smaller. If the lid won't close on pickup day, you need the next size up or an extra pickup.
Can you get private commercial trash service inside Abilene city limits?
Commercial trash service inside Abilene city limits goes through the City. The City of Abilene says its Solid Waste Services division is the only agency authorized to collect solid waste in the city, and short-term construction debris is the only exception. Our front-load service is for businesses outside Abilene city limits.

Other towns set their own rules. Sweetwater, Breckenridge and Albany use Republic Services as the contracted hauler. Eastland permits only Waste Connections roll-offs. Coleman limits collection to the city or a city-approved contractor. Snyder, Ranger, Early and Brownwood run their own city sanitation. Before we quote, we confirm your address can take private commercial service.

Where should a front-load dumpster sit?
A front-load dumpster sits on a flat concrete or asphalt pad the truck can drive straight up to, because the truck lifts the bin over its cab with forks. Keep the pad clear of parked cars, overhead wires and low roof edges, and check whether your city or landlord requires a screened enclosure.
- Leave the bin's front clear on pickup day; a blocked bin can't be emptied.
- Keep lids closed so wind and rain stay out. West Texas wind empties open bins fast.
- Keep the area around the bin clear of overflow bags, which the truck can't pick up.
These are typical setup tips. Your service quote covers placement for your lot.
Front-load dumpster or roll-off: which do you need?
A front-load dumpster is for steady weekly trash and is emptied on a schedule. A roll-off dumpster is for a one-time job, such as a remodel, cleanout or demolition, and is hauled away when you're done. Many businesses keep a front-load bin and rent a roll-off for a renovation.
For a store remodel or a warehouse cleanout, see the 30-yard and 40-yard roll-offs. For a building project, see construction dumpster rental.
Commercial dumpster questions
How often will my front-load dumpster be emptied?
Pickup frequency is set on your service quote to match the bags your business fills. Call with your daily bag count and we will suggest a size and schedule together.
Can a restaurant put grease in a front-load dumpster?
Liquids and cooking grease don't belong in a front-load bin. Hazardous chemicals, wet paint and batteries are refused too. Bag food waste and keep the lid closed.
What if my business outgrows its dumpster?
If the lid won't close by pickup day, move up a size or add a pickup. Call and we'll change the size or schedule on your service quote.
Is my business in Sweetwater or Breckenridge eligible?
Sweetwater and Breckenridge use Republic Services as their contracted hauler. Call with your address and we will check whether private commercial service is allowed there before quoting.
